Cents against a chargeback A chargeback costs you the amount and a fee. Daily proof of your orders is free.
The scene
“I never accepted that returns policy.”
A customer bought a €240 lamp on 3 March. Six weeks later she writes: she wants to return it. Your policy says 30 days, and you reply with the link.
Two days later the payment provider’s notice arrives: chargeback, “item not as described”. You open your site to copy your returns policy and it is no longer the March one: you rewrote it in April, for the sales.
You have the order in your shop, of course. But you cannot prove which text was there the day she paid, nor that nobody has touched that order since. The conversation is no longer about the lamp: it is about whether you are believed.
The ritual: checkout. It happens by itself, order by order
- Connect your shop once. With WooCommerce, the Sellat plugin, coming soon to the WordPress.org directory. With any other platform, the Sellat API, which is already open.
- Choose the legal pages it watches: terms, privacy, returns and shipping. Each time their content changes, a new version is recorded with its exact text.
- From then on you do nothing. Every paid order is recorded when it is paid: amounts, products, dates, payment method and the version of your terms in force at that moment.
- Of the customer, only a fingerprint of the email travels, not the email: never the name, address or phone.
- On the free account, each day’s orders are anchored together on Polygon and Bitcoin. On the Pro account, every order gets its own proof within minutes.
- When a customer complains, open the order in your shop and download its proof pack. Send it to your payment provider, to the customer, or to whoever needs it.

What Sellat proves in a claim
Sellat proves which order existed, with which data and on which date, and which exact version of your terms was in force when the customer paid, with nobody, you included, able to change it afterwards. It is technical evidence anyone can check with standard tools, without trusting you or Sellat.
Delivery is covered by the shipment’s tracking and its receipt. Sellat covers everything before it: the purchase and the terms. Together, the claim has an answer from start to finish.
What you keep, and what you send
From each order you download a proof pack from your own shop: the order’s record, the exact text of the terms the customer accepted, the public proof on Polygon and Bitcoin, and a README that explains how to check everything with standard tools.
It is what you attach to your reply to the payment provider, or send to the customer. Once downloaded it checks without Sellat, and your shop also keeps its own copy of every record.
The checkbox does not keep what was accepted. Sellat does.
Online stores ask customers to tick the terms box, but they rarely keep which version each customer accepted, and what you keep in your own database can be changed.
Sellat records every version with its text, and every order with the version in force when it was paid, with a date anchored on public networks.
An order’s proof is made when it is paid. Not on the day of the claim.
A chargeback costs you the amount and a fee. Daily proof of all your orders is free: connect your shop once and it happens by itself.
